Selecting Turbine Flow Meters: Key Considerations

Selecting Turbine Flow Meters: Key Considerations

2024-10-01

Intelligent liquid turbine flow meters, developed using advanced ultra-low power microcontroller technology, integrate the turbine flow sensor with a display and accumulation unit, offering numerous advantages such as compact design, clear readings, high reliability, immunity to external power interference, lightning protection, and cost-effectiveness. However, when selecting a turbine flow meter, clients should take note of the following critical factors:

  1. Model Selection: Choose the flow meter model based on the nominal pipe pressure, maximum medium pressure, medium temperature, composition of the medium, flow range, and signal output requirements.

  2. Optimal Flow Range: For the best performance, the operating flow range of the flow meter should be within 20% to 80% of Qmax.

  3. Signal Output Options: Turbine flow meters typically come with field pulse signal output (three-wire system), standard flow signal output (IC card), or RS-485 communication output. If other output functions are required, specify them when ordering.

  4. High Cost-Performance Ratio: Turbine flow meters are highly appreciated for their cost-effectiveness and accuracy, which often reaches 1%, and in some cases, can achieve 0.5%.

Turbine Flow Meter Structure and Installation Methods

The structure and installation methods vary with specifications and can include threaded, flanged, and clamp connections.

Installation Requirements for Turbine Flow Meters:

  1. Installation Orientation: The flow meter can be installed horizontally or vertically, ensuring that the fluid flows from the bottom up in vertical installations. The liquid should fill the pipe without any air bubbles.

  2. Flow Direction: The direction of fluid flow should align with the arrow on the meter indicating the direction of flow. There should be at least 20 times the pipe diameter in length of straight pipe run upstream of the meter and not less than 5 times the diameter downstream.

  3. Electromagnetic Fields: The flow meter should be installed away from external electromagnetic fields. If this is unavoidable, necessary shielding measures should be taken.

  4. Bypass for Maintenance: To ensure uninterrupted fluid transport during maintenance, install a bypass pipeline at the flow meter installation site.

  5. Outdoor Installations: If the flow meter is installed outdoors, take rain protection measures.

  6. Explosive-Proof Models: For safety, the removal or installation of the meter casing should be done in a secure environment, especially for explosive-proof models.

Understanding the selection and installation requirements for turbine flow meters is crucial for ensuring accurate flow measurements and protecting your investment. By considering these factors, you can optimize the performance and longevity of your flow meter.
