Case Study on After-Sale Service: Resolving Instantaneous Flow Readings in Liquid Turbine Meters Despite Zero Water Flow

2024-12-20

Liquid turbine flowmeters are precision instruments widely recognized for their accuracy and reliability in measuring the flow rate of liquids. They operate on the principle of measuring the rotational speed of a turbine rotor, which is directly driven by the fluid flow. This technology is particularly suited for applications requiring high precision and repeatability, such as in the chemical, petroleum, water treatment, and food processing industries. The flowmeter's design, featuring a multi-blade rotor that spins with the fluid's momentum, allows for a wide flow range and excellent turndown ratios. However, as with any sophisticated mechanical device, these flowmeters can occasionally encounter issues that require troubleshooting and maintenance, which is where Sure Instrument's after-sales support comes into play. In our case studies of common after-sales issues, we will explore the challenges that may arise with liquid turbine flowmeters and the solutions we implement to ensure their optimal performance and longevity.

Case Introduction:

A pharmaceutical manufacturing facility relied on a Sure Instrument liquid turbine flowmeter to monitor and control the flow of purified water in their indoor production process. The pharmaceutical process demands precise control over water quality and flow rate, a requirement adeptly met by the liquid turbine flowmeter. Since its installation, the flowmeter had been operating steadily for a week, providing accurate flow data for the pharmaceutical process. However, during a routine check, operators discovered an anomaly: the meter displayed instantaneous flow even though no water was passing through it. If not addressed promptly, this issue could lead to production disruptions and a decline in product quality. Upon being informed by the client, our after-sales team immediately provided a plan to troubleshoot the problem.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Inspecting Instantaneous Flow and Frequency: We checked the size of the instantaneous flow displayed by the flowmeter and the frequency on the secondary interface in Hz. We assessed whether these readings affected the normal flow usage. If the abnormal instantaneous flow readings did not impact the normal flow, we considered removing the abnormal signal.

  2. Identifying Potential Interference Sources: We identified possible sources of interference, including pumps, power line cable trays, solenoid valves, external power supplies, electrified pipelines, and intense pipeline vibration. These are common causes of flowmeter signal interference.

  3. Eliminating External Power Supply Interference: With the external power supply disconnected and the flowmeter running on battery power, if the instantaneous flow was still displayed, we could rule out external power supply interference. If the instantaneous flow disappeared, it indicated that the external power supply was the source of interference.

  4. Converter Removal Test: After unscrewing the converter, if the instantaneous flow ceased, it suggested that the pipeline was electrified. If the instantaneous flow persisted, we continued to investigate other sources of interference.

  5. Minimizing Spatial Interference: We moved the converter away from potential sources of interference and checked again. If the instantaneous flow ceased, it indicated spatial interference. If the instantaneous flow remained, we continued to troubleshoot other potential sources of interference.

Please follow these steps carefully to diagnose and resolve any interference issues with your flowmeter. If the problem persists, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional technician for further assistance.

Solution:

After a detailed diagnosis, we determined that the issue was spatial interference caused by a cable tray. This required a change in the flowmeter's installation location to eliminate the interference and ensure accurate measurements by the liquid turbine flowmeter.

Our professional team responded swiftly, taking effective measures to resolve the issue with minimal disruption and at the fastest speed possible. This not only demonstrated our commitment to product quality but also showcased Sure Instrument's professionalism and efficiency in after-sales service. Our goal is to provide precise measurement solutions that help our clients enhance production capabilities, reduce energy consumption, improve product quality, and lower emissions, thus having a positive impact on the environment.

We take pride in overcoming this challenge and ensuring your production process remains uninterrupted.
