Electromagnetic flow meters with a 220V power supply can be integrated into a single unit or designed as modular components.

  2. 24V Power Supply: This type of flow meter is primarily used in industrial sites where the AC power supply is not operational, or where safety considerations allow for or require low-voltage DC current. Alternatively, a flow totalizer can be used to provide power to the electromagnetic flow meter from the totalizer. The 24V option is the only choice in such scenarios.

  3. Battery-Powered: Battery-powered electromagnetic flow meters are not yet widely used but are suitable for locations without a power source. However, they tend to be significantly more expensive than their counterparts.

Installation Standards for Electromagnetic Flow Meters

  1. Location: Choose a location free from vibrations or strong electromagnetic fields, such as those generated by large motors and inverters.

  2. Orientation: Install the meter vertically whenever possible. For horizontal installations, position the meter at the lowest point to ensure full pipe flow and prevent air bubbles.

  3. Straight Pipe Requirements: Ensure there is a straight run of pipe, preferably 5 to 10 times the pipe diameter, upstream of the meter to achieve accurate measurements.

  4. Welding Precautions: When welding, avoid connecting the instrument to prevent damage to the flow meter.

  5. Grounding: The meter's casing should be grounded, and the shielded cable should be grounded at one end. Do not share grounding points with high-power sources.

  6. Maintenance Accessibility: Select an installation location that facilitates maintenance and allows for the installation of a bypass line to redirect the fluid in case of failure.

  7. Environmental Considerations: Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures, which can demagnetize the meter.

  8. Cable Management: Do not run signal cables alongside high-power cables to prevent interference.

    Understanding the power supply options and adhering to installation standards are essential for the proper functioning of electromagnetic flow meters. By following these guidelines, you can ensure accurate flow measurements and extend the life of your flow meters.
